Performers |
All my mom's family either played a musical instrument or sang. I started taking accordion lessons at the age of seven. I played organ in a band in high school. I can fake playing a guitar for brief periods of time. All of this gave me a good background for photographing performers. My musical background gives me a good sense of timing, which allows me to anticipate the peak moments of action and emotion in a musical performance. The first concert I photographed was B.B. King for the student newspaper at MTSU. I went on from there to spend eight years photographing concerts in Nashville. I was lucky to work with some great people from Sound Seventy, WLAC radio, and a lot of other music businesses in the area. Almost all my images are from l970-1980. |
