The Artist

I was born and currently live in Lawrenceburg in the hills of southern middle
Tennessee. My first words as a child were, "See there". Photographs have always
been important in my family. Before I was ten years old my parents and I had traveled
from Tennessee to California ten times. We took lots of pictures and saw lots of great
scenes. A famous photographer said she learned to frame the world through a car
window and I can relate to that.

Pictures always meant a lot to me but I was never very interested in taking pictures.
That changed while I was at Middle Tennessee State University. Harold Baldwin and
the Photographic Gallery he started, showed me the example of a photograph as fine
craft, and the pursuit of photography as art. I am still trying to live up to those
standards.

I perfected my ability to print while working at various custom print labs. It was great
to make prints all day long from images by the best pros and the beginning hobbyist.

With my photography as artwork I am trying to share with you my wonderment with
life. My subjects are as varied as life itself. I love the animate, the inanimate, nature,
industrial, new, old, action, and rest. I love to extend time and to freeze it. I love that
we can hold in our hand and view a moment in time. I also love that I can create
worlds and scenes that have never existed except in my mind.

I try to give you the best product that can be made. I do not cut corners or hurry at
the expense of quality. I want to be known as a fine craftsman. Whether my work is
art is left to the viewer to decide.

When I started doing art shows I used to have a statement in my display that said, "I
want to capture events, moments, and emotions with something more permanent
than a fading memory".

I hope you will see some images while you are here that you will occasionally
remember with pleasure for the rest of your life. If I can do that one thing then I have
served my purpose.
